Life of Saint John the Evangelist

A young fisherman of Galilee whom Jesus called from his nets — the disciple “whom Jesus loved,” who alone stood at the Cross, outlived every other apostle, and carried the Gospel from the Sea of Galilee to Ephesus, Patmos, and the edge of a new century.

This interactive map follows his long life across the Roman world, from his birth in c. AD 6 to his death at Ephesus around AD 100. Each of its 20 stops tells how long he stayed, his age at the time, who walked with him, the miracles and events, the people he met, the reigning emperor, and the city’s place in the empire.
